CHINA- Ministers from China and Algeria have met to exchange views on issues of mutual interest in the aquaculture and fisheries sectors.
During the meeting, Vice Minister Niu Dun gave an introduction about China"s fisheries and aquaculture in recent years to the Algerian side.
He pointed out that China"s yield and output value of the fishery sector have been the biggest in the world since 1990.
Aquaculture in China has undergone rapid development with emerging new farming technology and varieties. The growth of the fishery industry has not only satisfied the demand of market, but also contributed to agricultural restructuring, the improvement of Chinese people"s dietary pattern and nutrition as well as the increase of fishermen"s income.
Mr Niu stated that China and Algeria were complementary to each other in terms of fisheries and aquaculture, showing huge potential for cooperation.
The two sides can carry out cooperation in the field of pelagic fishing and aquaculture, and encourage competent and trustworthy Chinese enterprises to invest in Algeria.
Algerian Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Sid Ahmed Ferroukhi agreed with Niu"s comments and suggestions. He showed admiration to China"s achievements in fisheries and aquaculture since the reform and opening-up policy was adopted.
He also expressed the wish to cooperate with China in pelagic fishing and aquaculture, and said Algeria would provide possible convenience to Chinese pelagic fishing and aquaculture enterprises that intend to invest in Algeria.
